Did you know that it generally takes up to 20 hours for us to complete the research for a 5-6 generation family tree 🌲

Your final tree is the accumulation of a huge number of different records, documents, information and archives to verify names, dates and places.
If it can't be confirmed it ain't going on the tree. That's why you will sometimes see 'unknown' amongst the ancestors in your tree. Hearsay, speculation and "that could be it" just don't cut it with us.

Sometimes our ancestors weren't always on the right side of the law ⚖

Rather than discount them from history, we often have clients come to us to discover more about them, what and how they got into the predicaments they did. The individual could be on the right side of the law...or not.
Some of these incidents can be farcical by today's standards. Some can be harder to swallow.

You know how people do those adorable 'recreations

You know how people do those adorable 'recreations' of old photos? Someone is usually sitting with a bucket on their head or the like.

Well, throwback to deep into lockdown (number 3??) and I thought I would recreate this ol' family photo.

Swipe 👉 across to see the woman whose photograph tormented me as a small child. This used to hang in my grandparents home office/play room and she frightened me to no end. I had nightmares about his woman.

I have since discovered that she was Betsy Peppiatt and she was my great great great great (that's 4!) grandmother on my maternal side. Born at the beginning of the 19th century in Bedford, England she died at the age of almost 80 in Adelaide, South Australia.

I am sure she was a lady to be reckoned with. She still traumatises me!

Turns out I thought it was common knowledge in my family that my great grandfather re-married later in life. Read: it was not!
It's all good. I have not been disowned, but instead tasked with finding out more. Thus is the life of the historian.
