Keeping it in the family tree

    Born + Bred Historical Research

How much do you know about your family tree? It doesn’t come as a shock to most people that they know very little about all the ancestors that make up their family. Quite often we know a few generations back...

This was a fun project! 🍷

Sourcing historical images for the fabulous new Geelong wine store and bar @claretwineshop (I’m clearly biased as it’s my sister and brother-in-laws new baby).
I found some wonderful images, but this one was the winner and is now sitting in pride of place watching over the quaffers.

What a year in family history it’s been.

It’s been a pleasure and a privilege being able to uncover the stories of your ancestors, research your family trees, discover the history of your homes, sit down and record your stories, break down your “brick walls”, and solve your history mysteries 🕵🏼‍♀️

The out of office is now on and I’m taking a break until the new year to refresh and spend time with family and friends (and hopefully get a few perfect summer beach days).

I’ll be back on deck ready to help you with all your historical and genealogical needs on Monday 5 January 2026.

There have been a few surprises recently 😲

Discovering that someone’s ancestor was actually a foundling, and as such the family name has been completely fabricated.

It has taken four generations for this to come to light.

We are so lucky to have so much information online and at our fingertips, including a range of historical records.

BUT...

What we can access online is just the tip of the iceberg. So much of what we do is searching and accessing physical archival records to find those missing pieces of the puzzle or answer your questions.

Taking a deep dive into land and property records this week 🏠

These are Applications of Title records and are a treasure trove! There is everything from correspondence, title deeds to marriage certificates.

You never know what you’ll find until you start searching.
